Georgia Burn Permit

Effective July 1, 2021, Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) is no longer issuing residential burn permits for hand-piled natural vegetation/yard debris. Change on the state level will not affect daily operations in the fire department.

Under Senate Bill 119, GA code section 12-6-90 was changed to eliminate the need to notify the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) by the person, firm, corporation, or association who intends to burn hand-piled natural vegetation/yard debris.

**Agriculture, silviculture, land clearing burns and vegetative burns will still require a burn permit issued by Georgia Forestry Commission with no changes. The number to call is 478-986-5123.

Any local burning ordinances are applicable. In addition, restrictions on burning in 54 northern Georgia counties under the Environmental Protection Division summer burn ban from May 1-September 30 continue to be in effect with no changes.
